Prince George s Real Estate Agents for Change formed in late September armed with a point plan for increasing homeownership and help housing related businesses in the county through legislation. The member group already has the support of several state lawmakers including Del. Aisha N. Braveboy D Dist. of Mitchellville. Braveboy is working with the group and other legislators on a bill requiring at least percent minority business participation on any project receiving public financing subject to state approval. We think the council was pleased that we weren t there to bash but to offer constructive advice said Brian Austin a Mitchellville broker and one of the group s committee chairmen. Dernoga said he hopes to set up a meeting between the agents and the county s Department of Housing and Community Development next month. Austin said the council also warned the agents that the county s cap on property taxes could interfere with some of the group s proposals saying it minimizes the available resources. This applies especially to the group s suggestion to eliminate recordation and transfer taxes for county first responders and home buying teachers with master s degrees. Ruth C. Also Baltimore County officials recently attended the local real estate agents annual housing conference and numerous agents assist in the county s moderately priced dwelling programs Davis said. The county and real estate groups also work together to ensure truthfulness in home advertising. We compare notes he said. Davis said her association itself is working with HUD toward stimulating the market. We want to teach Realtors what the local government is doing she said.
