commemoration program on Jan. at p.m. in NKU s University Center Otto Budig Theater. The program is themed Remember Celebrate Act A Day On Not a Day Off. Thousands of listeners tune in coast to coast on Sirius XM Satellite Radio channel and WOL AM in Washington D.C. to Madison s daily radio talk show. Known as The Black Eagle Madison s bio notes that he needs two wings to fly. And for him that translates into successfully balancing the passions of talk radio and political activism. It s a balancing act that has won him praise in the talk radio industry and civil rights community. When many of his peers are all talk and no action Madison has spent his entire adult life in the trenches engaged in the very issues he raises with his radio audience. It is a sacrifice that has meant going to jail for civil disobedience countless times taking part in hunger strikes in opposition to apartheid in South Africa and genocide and modern day slavery in Sudan. In April Madison was awarded Talker magazine s coveted Freedom of Speech Award. Previous recipients have included Howard Stern Al Franken Rush Limbaugh Bill O Reilly and Brian Lamb. A native of Dayton Ohio Madison has been named Talker magazine s Most Important Radio Talk Show Hosts nine times an amazing feat for someone who started his career on Detroit s legendary WXYZ AM in . Madison has been relentless in his efforts to protect those who suffer at the hands of powerful interests. He led demonstrations and arrests in front of the Sudanese Embassy for straight days to end the genocide in Darfur. His efforts led first to the House of Representatives and U.S Senate and later the Bush administration declaring genocide was taking place in Darfur. Madison followed this up by leading a campaign to divest billion in Sudan. To date Illinois South Carolina Michigan New Hampshire New Jersey Oregon and California have divested from Sudan. Madison has traveled three times to the war zones in southern Sudan where he participated in the freeing of more than slaves and delivering survival kits to refugees. He organized a Sudan Campaign to end slavery and raised thousands of dollars to free slaves at a cost of per slave. He participated in the victorious movement opposing the deportation of Liberians from the United States in . He and his wife Sharon have been married for more than years and live in Washington D.C. The country s used car market grew by about per cent in according to Business Monitor International an international research body. Dubai and Sharjah are regional hubs for used and re conditioned cars which are re exported to East Africa West Africa Afghanistan Pakistan Iraq and Central Asian republics. Demand in those markets is expected to dictate the market performance in the UAE. Industry experts say that due to lower consumer spending the automobile market is right behind the real estate sector to witness a slowdown as the global financial meltdown begins to bite. Inam Saleem managing director of Prestige Car Care a dealer in used cars stressed on the importance of the local market to global manufacturers. The UAE has been a test market and a launch pad for many car manufacturers he said. In trouble He added that with major automobile companies in the US in trouble used car sales for their brands would be reduced. No body would be willing a to buy a car when the manufacturer would not be around for long. Mohammad Redha Ansarali managing director of Deals on Wheels a used car dealer within the Al Aweer used car market told Gulf News that need is in the driver s seat and want has taken the backseat. Only those who need cars are buying now he said. As a result high end luxury car sales are witnessing a slump. I would sell four to five Rolls Royce in a months now the number is down to one Ansarali said. Shift Ansarali also said that there is a shift in demand. Buyers are not looking at specific brands so much as this point. Buyers are becoming more cautious of spending. If they really need a care they would buy something that fits their budget he added. Ansarali said that currently dealers that offer attractive finance packages would see their sales increase. On a positive note he said that now is a good time to buy. There is a flood of stock and the prices are cheap as well said Ansarali. Additionally a used car salesperson at a German dealer said the depreciation of the euro and the current market slump is badly affecting their sales. Prices are down five to ten per cent across the board he said. Meanwhile Saleem told Gulf News that the right hand auto market in Dubai is dying . Re exports to Central European countries and Africa are slowing down as African ports perform well he said. With the developments taking place in those countries and facilities now made available people are approaching the US and Japanese markets directly for used car supply. Previously Dubai was the main market for them. Supply to markets in the Central Asian bloc was high at one point but it has slowed down significantly now said Saleem. Forecast Numbers to fall The total number of cars in the UAE today is about . million considered to be one of the highest numbers per capita. The ratio in Dubai is calculated at cars to every people the highest in the country. Experts say this number will change in the coming years especially once the Dubai Metro starts operating and the Roads and Transport Authority tightens rules to obtain a driver s licence and makes car ownership expensive by increasing registration and renewal fees and adding toll gates. It s because many are on the roads illegally with registration numbers of Haryana and Chandigarh and their owners have not paid tax due to state authorities. Says regional transport officer Ahmedabad AB Gor Owners of cars registered outside Gujarat plying on city roads have to pay tax to local RTO authorities within days under Gujarat Motor Vehicles Tax Act. Failing this a vehicle can be detained. Mercedes C E and S class including the seven series class Porsches Lexuses and Audis are a common sight here. In fact some city bigwigs import a whole fleet of four wheel fantasies giving RTO authorities the slip. These cars come with a price tag of over Rs lakh. RTO authorities are soon going to conduct a drive confiscating such high end luxury cars and levy a per cent fine on owners in addition to registration charges adds Gor. As per law owners have to pay per cent tax on actual price for imported luxury cars and for a company car it s per cent. In case of Indian ones the tax is six per cent for individuals and per cent for companies explains an RTO official. We are losing a substantial amount of revenue because of this flouting of norms. Luxury car owners should lead by example in this regard adds the official. Last Updated PM GMT Dec The network run by US based firm Better Place will be ready for commercial use by . It will be the first nationwide network of its kind in the world. In a pilot project Better Place will install of the charging points by the end of this year in cities including Tel Aviv Haifa and Jerusalem the Guardian reports. It expects to have charging points by the time the first cars are marketed. Moshe Kaplinsky head of Better Place Israel told the paper This vision is to stop this addiction to oil. Unfortunately a great part of the resources of oil are held by countries that don t share the same values we cherish in the western civilisation where we live. The gap is very clear between the price of producing a barrel of oil and the price that it sells for on the world market. And in some places these profits finance terror. Better Place has signed deals for similar electric car networks in San Francisco Hawaii Denmark and Australia but the project in Israel is the first spanning a whole country. Renault Nissan will supply the electric cars. Given Israel s small size the company expects relatively little need for changing batteries. A return trip from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv for example covers miles. Vista SP2 due next April says report IT World Barking Dog garners Web award Marin Independent Journal

will deliver Windows Vista Service Pack SP to manufacturing in April two months after it issues a final test version to users according to a Web site that accurately predicted several Windows ship dates in . TechARP.com a Malaysian Web site that nailed the release to manufacturing RTM dates for Vista SP and XP SP earlier this year said that Microsoft will post a release candidate the final test version of Vista SP in February finish the service pack next April and offer it to users via download from the Web at some point afterward. The last was necessarily vague if only because Microsoft has had trouble this year synchronizing service pack RTM dates with availability on Windows Update. It took six weeks last winter to get Vista SP in the hands of most users and then only after a ruckus when Microsoft initially denied access to subscribers of its for pay developer services and a week to issue Windows XP SP in the spring. XP SP was delayed because of a data corrupting compatibility bug with Microsoft s own point of sale software. Although Microsoft issued the beta of Vista SP to a limited number of testers a month ago company officials have so far only committed to shipping the update sometime in the first half of next year. According to Microsoft Vista SP will include Windows Search Bluetooth . wireless support faster resume from sleep when a wireless connection has been broken and support for Blu ray. Some of those features including Windows Search and the Bluetooth support have been available to Vista users for months through individual updates. The service pack will update both Vista the client version of Windows and Windows Server the company s corresponding server software. Vista SP will require SP as a prerequisite a factor that played to Microsoft s ongoing recommendation that users deploy the first service pack as soon as possible. posted by ITworld staff Computerworld I like it Email Print Share Slashdot Digg Stumble Reddit Newsvine Post a comment Your name E mail The content of this field is kept private and will not be shown publicly. Melissa Caruso a Middlesex County resident has brought a unique service to Warren County the Fun Bus franchise provides opportunities for children to have fun in a way that is healthy and unique. The Fun Bus is a full size school bus that has undergone a complete makeover to accommodate the children of the community. All of the seats have been removed and replaced with carpeting and padding. Where bus seats used to be there are now slides trampolines tumbling mats and plenty of other fitness equipment. The services of the Fun Bus are often employed by schools or daycares that elect to provide a structured and engaging alternative to parents. Schools and daycares work alongside with the Fun Bus to arrange a schedule that will be integrated into the children s weekly activities. During these sessions kids will receive special attention from two certified Fun Bus instructors who will supervise the children s learning and safety. In addition to being fully insured to guarantee the children s safety the Fun Bus is equipped with dual air conditioning and heating. The Fun Bus also specializes in birthday parties and can accommodate any amount of children. Caruso cites the emphasis on the structured activities provided by the Fun Bus as an advantage over other daycare programs. It takes a lot of weight off of the parents Caruso added. The Fun Bus also provides additional services for their birthday party package. In addition to the Fun Bus equipment and instructors their birthday package includes t shirts stamps stickers and personalized invitations. The Fun Bus is best suited for children ranging from months of age to seven years old. Caruso is no stranger to working with children she has worked alongside with children at the Kiddie Academy in North Brunswick for eight years. Working with the children is my favorite part Caruso said when recalling the experience. Caruso is a mother of three children twin girls and a two year old son. Caruso cites her son s enjoyment of the Fun Bus as her inspiration to invest in the franchise. He was always singing the song it was all he talked about Caruso said. The Fun Bus has already arranged multiple programs with schools and daycares throughout Warren County as well as birthday parties on weekends. If you are a franchisee or know of one whom is worthy of our attention then please let me know at davidfrantrends.com . In this Franchisee Focus we head to the state of Texas to meet Marcus Gardner an Always Best Care Senior Services franchisee in the Dallas Texas area. . Tell us about yourself i.e. what is your name franchise you own and the length of your relationship with the franchise Marcus Gardner I own a franchise with Always Best Care Senior Services and I own territories in the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex. I researched Always Best Care the market and opportunity for over a year. I started my franchise operations in June . . Why did you choose this franchise opportunity I chose ABC because of its long history in excelling in Assisted Living Placement and In Home Care non medical for years. I also felt the large territories low cost of entry and low franchise costs give each franchise owner a great chance for success as well. . Tell us about your average day. How many hours do you work etc My average day includes marketing client meetings relationship brand building activities administrative tasks etc. to gain the trust of seniors and their families. I spend on avg. hours per day on my business however I just began my franchise months ago so I am in the initial setup phase. . What is the best part of owning your own franchise The best part of owning my franchise is truly following a purposeful driven life and passion for helping others. Another great thing about owning an ABC franchise is the support and advice I can get on a daily basis in order to grow my business. . What is the most difficult part of owning your own franchise The most difficult part of owning my franchise would have to be the slight differences and approaches in getting your message out to medical staff families etc. I have found that patience consistency and perseverance are key to capture your market and get to the individuals that need our services. . What did you do before you became a franchise owner I was a business mgmt consultant working with fortune companies on process improvements. . What piece of advice would you offer to someone considering becoming a franchise owner Instead of thinking of what type of business you would like to own or fit into search who you are and what types of things make you happy and fit your moral compass. From that point it is much easier to find franchise opportunities. A franchise provides a proven business in most cases that will save you time and money in order to get you off the ground much faster. Here s some food for thought If you have nude photos of your wife on your cell phone hang onto it. Phillip Sherman of Arkansas learned that lesson after he left his phone behind at a McDonald s restaurant and the photos ended up online. Now he and his wife Tina are suing the McDonald s Corp. the franchise owner and the store manager. The suit was filed Friday and seeks a jury trial and million in damages for suffering embarrassment and the cost of having to move to a new home. The suit says that Phillip Sherman left the phone the Fayetteville store in July and that employees promised to secure it until he returned.
